Biography
My primary research focus is on Korean shamanism, also known as "mugyo" or "muism." I am a practicing mudang myself, so most of my research is done through an auto-ethnographic lens. I am also a ritual specialist, with experience both performing rituals and studying them from an academic perspective. I am particularly interested in deconstructing the idea of ritual beyond the sacred/profane dichotomy in order to examine the mundane or "behind the scenes" aspects of ritual preparation as inherently transformative and sacred acts.
